The Taipei chapter of RINJ Women, led by Dr. Kathy Poon, agreed on the proposal from the Shenzhen Chapter, presented by chapter President Sara Qin, before the meetings in South Korea. Both chapters concurred on the global One China Policy. The meeting involved limited discussion by the board of directors and the executive board. The secretary of the board recorded the events, documented the presentation, and, at the chair’s behest, revisited the executive summaries of both presentations twice. Subsequently, the board unanimously voted to accept the proposals of the Chinese Chapters, one from the mainland and the other from Taiwan island.

While the Hong Kong chapters chose not to make a presentation, Hong Kong collectively voted with the other two chapters in accord.

“Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist Kuomintang Party lost the election in 1949, and fled to the island of Taiwan which is part of China, recognized as such by the global community,” said Rosa Yamamoto who noted that the Tokyo chapter had sent its  greetings and blessings to acknowledge that Japanese chapters are in favour of the status quo, One China.

Dale Carter, who is the security director of The RINJ Foundation was filling the role of chairperson for this meeting, explained that she was relieved a policy decision had been reached.

“While we have supported Tsai Ing-wen as the first woman to lead the island, we did not view this as governance separate from China, a stance only taken by the Americans for reasons best left unexplored. Our understanding is shaped by historical knowledge. We will ensure that our workers on the Demilitarize South China Sea project are informed. Karina Angeles, representing the group, has assured us that the clear policy of a well-established Civil Society Organization in the region should contribute to regional stability and reduce the number of contentious issues. I express my gratitude to everyone for their outstanding work and these enlightening briefings,” said Ms. Carter as she turned the chair over to Katie Alsop in order that she could make a presentation on security.

Monique Deslauriers, a founding director as well as being the Executive Director for the USA, participated virtually. She stated that the policy should continue to be ‘One China’. She expressed that any interference by the U.S. government is merely an attempt to destabilize China and hinder its progress towards global economic objectives and the well-being of its people which is also our primary goal, the health and safety of the families of China and the entire globe. The meeting participants and the audience of observers applauded Ms. Deslauriers who made her submission in both English and French for the benefit of video conferencing to Toronto and Quebec City attendees. The RINJ Foundation is an international CSO based in Toronto, Canada.
