Is seeking an end to pro-rape page content on Facebook seeking
inappropriate censorship? No.

Facebook is a social networking web site whereat users provide free content and Facebook sells that content for a substantial fee at an unprecedented profit. Facebook is not a legitimate news media and censorship is not at issue. Freedom of speech is not at issue either. It’s a family social network site whereat there are strict rules that insist on censorship.

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) sets out: …[Freedom of speech and expression may] “therefore be subject to certain restrictions” when necessary “for respect of the rights or reputation of others” or “for the protection of national security or of public order, or of public health or morals”

Go scream “BOMB” in the pre-boarding room at your nearest airport. You’ll be censored.

Try and say a swear word in a post on our Facebook Community page (http://www.facebook.com/rape.is.no.joke). It’s filtered such that it will be flagged as spam and hidden. Why filtering? Because the age of the audience can be under 18 and because it is a social networking internet site for the family and some filtering of content is the responsible thing to do.

Facebook’s users are 13+. Facebook provides the tools for
content filtering.

Some people who set up “Community” pages and appoint themselves as moderators/administrators” do not use Facebook’s filtering tools. But Facebook censors all the time. As of late it is impossible to start a group or a page with the word “rape” in it. Censorship? What the hell are you talking about? It’s a place where children play. Let’s forbid death threats and forbid encouraging rape and a few other things, ok?

We want to prevent Facebook, a commercial entity that sells the content we provide, from selling advertising on its pro-rape content pages.
Regardless of your uninformed, misplaced mental meanderings about freedom of the press, Facebook is not the press. Censorship is not at issue.

Facebook is not the news media but an overgrown corporate
monster that is now dictating social morality, crime and punishment, based on hit counts and advertising dollars.

Media outlets are compelled to uphold the law and must not say or do anything that exploits the freedom of expression to the point of instigating crime. Rape is a crime, not a joke.

We think about getting that monster, Facebook, back under
control. Facebook should not decide the morality of society. We the people of society do that.

Rape is not a joke. Rape is a crime. Doing anything at all to
encourage sexual assault is also a crime. If it is not in your jurisdiction, then it should be.
