Liz Cheney set the cat amongst the pigeons by having the guts to challenge GOP liars who said Trump won the 2020 election, despite Joseph Biden winning by a landslide as polls predicted.
“In a watershed moment for the GOP, Rep. Liz Cheney, the most fearsome and resolute Republican opponent of former President Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, was rejected by Wyoming voters in her own party Tuesday night,” writes seasoned political journalist Jon Ward, Chief National Correspondent for Yahoo News.
“A former President who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol in an effort to steal the election has resumed an aggressive effort to convince Americans the election was stolen,” said Ms. Liz Cheney on 12 May 2021 in a speech to Congress.
“Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar (Trump’s false claim),” she said, adding, “I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”
“Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president,” Representative Cheney said. “They have heard only his words, but not the truth as he continues to undermine our democratic process, sowing seeds of doubt about whether democracy really works at all.”
